Michael Snyder, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center at HCA HealthONE Rose. He is also the Founder and Director of the Denver Center for Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Foundation, bringing the best regional bariatric surgeons to work together with him throughout the regional HCA HealthONE system. He has been doing bariatric surgery since 2002 and has performed more than 8,000 bariatric surgical procedures. He maintains a volume of 400-500 cases per year. Up to 20% of his surgical volume is made up of bariatric surgery revisions, to ensure patients continue to see the most effective bariatric surgery results. His program is a destination location for revisional surgery. He also is the Director of the Adolescent Bariatric Surgical Program at the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.
Dr. Snyder’s passion for bariatric surgery is based on his knowledge that morbid obesity is one of the vastly under-treated diseases, affecting not just health but quality and length of life. He is committed to using science and state-of-the-art technologies, via an integrated, team-based approach, to give his patients hope and results. Dr. Snyder performs all of the bariatric surgical procedures and is the only surgeon in the region performing the Mini-Gastric Bypass/One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (MGB/OAGB). For all his surgeries, he uses minimally-invasive approaches, both advanced laparoscopic and robotic.
Dr. Snyder received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine and became interested in bariatric surgery during his residency at Oregon Health Sciences University. He went on to complete an American Society for Bariatric Surgery-certified preceptorship in Oregon, where he studied under Dr. Latham Flanagan, Jr. He later expanded his expertise with instruction from internationally-recognized, laparoscopic, bariatric, surgery leader, Dr. Alan Wittgrove, as well as undertaking additional training at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Snyder has a special interest in gastric revisions, including band revisions; converting bands, sleeves, vertical banded gastroplasty, and Nissen fundoplications to alternative procedures; re-making bypasses, and correcting complications. He is trained in general surgery and all of the bariatric surgical procedures (minimally invasive Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass [RNY], MGB/OAGB, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Duodenal Switch/SADI, and Robotic Surgery).
An internationally-published author of Full: A Life Without Dieting, Dr. Snyder is an active member and Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also a long-standing and active member of the Society for Advanced Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (Board Certified in General Surgery).
